Meet the Water Buffalo!

Water Buffalo (not to be confused with Cape Buffalo) originated overseas but have been domesticated for many years. They are used for a variety of reasons. Some are used for transport or to work fields, others for meat and milk, and some for fresh mozzarella cheese! The water buffalo here at our ranch all started out as orphans in need of help. They were bottle raised and started on the halter. Some of them even wear a saddle and allow us to sit on them! Water Buffalo can be a variety or colors with the most common being black or tan. These guys LOVE the water! In the summertime when it is hot, you can almost always find them lounging in the mud or swimming in the pond. They can even swim underwater and hold their breath for extended periods of time!
